We all look forward to those summer vacations. But we can't always find the time to get away. The good news though, is even if you won’t be sipping cocktails while the waves tickle your toes, you can still make the best of your vacation days with a staycation! A staycation is just like a vacation, except you spend time at home instead of abroad. Staycations are a great alternative to your traditional vacation because not only are you likely to save a little money, but they also give you the opportunity to learn more about your area.
Here are a few activities to make your next staycation worthwhile!
Yes, another portmanteau. Glamping is exactly what it sounds like: glamorous camping. If you’re yearning for the outdoors, you can take your trip to your local camping grounds and bring all of your favorite amenities from your home, such as pots, pans, a lighter, toilet paper, and your favorite bedding. If the outdoors aren’t your thing or you don’t want to carry all of your belongings into the forest, you don’t have to. Just glamp at home! Glamping in your living room or backyard is the best of both worlds because you have everything you need right at your fingertips.
With hiking, you get to experience the great outdoors while also getting a light workout in. Hiking is an amazing staycation activity because it gives you the chance to get away from your daily hustle and bustle while still being close to home. You can scale your hikes to your liking as well. Some may prefer a quick day hike while others may want to devote their entire weekend to be one with nature.
Who doesn’t love a spa day? Spa days are perfect for staycations because it’s all about you and your relaxation. There are many avenues to take when planning a spa day. You can go big and find your local top notch spa, equipped with massage, mud bath, and sauna (of course), or you can treat yourself to a personal spa day. A road trip should be an obvious member of any staycation list. Hopping in a car and driving has been a popular pastime for nearly as long as cars have been around. If you don’t know where your road trip should take you, a quick google search is sure to answer all of your questions. To get you started, try taking a trip to a famous eatery for a local delicacy.
Getting gussied up is fun all on its own, but when it’s for a purpose it’s twice as fun. Inviting a few friends, close or otherwise, to a fancy meal will give you a chance to catch up and show off just how well you clean up. Seek out the most lavish restaurant in your area to add that extra bit of oomph to the evening. Also, who knows where the night will take you!? Friends make everything better.
The farmer’s market is arguably the most underrated destinations in any town. You can spend hours perusing the aisles with a lemon-lavender snow cone in one hand and a delicious, freshly-made samosa in the other. Seeing all of the mom and pop stands selling everything from herb-infused honeys to plump berries will make you appreciate their goods even more.
