Our Commitment to Sustainability

People and Planet First

Kala set out to create beautiful intimates with an ethos. We believe in creating things that stand the test of time and that you want to wear over and over again. We believe in sustainability. We are committed to using materials and practices that benefit the planet and reduce waste while supporting small farmers and mills. We believe in local manufacturing and ensure our factories pay garment workers a fair wage for their incredible work.

Ethical and sustainable fashion is not just possible, but essential. Read about how we put our beliefs into practice below.

Made in New York

We work exclusively with women-owned sewing rooms based in our hometown of New York City. New York has some of the most thorough labor protections in teh country and Our sewing rooms are compliant with all local, state, and federal employment laws and pay employees a living wage. We visit our sewing rooms at least weekly to check in on production and ensure safe and fair working conditions.

Earth Friendly Materials

Kala fabrics, from organic cotton to Tencel™, are sourced from certified eco-friendly suppliers, mills, and farmers. All of our materials are sourced from mills that are ISO-9002 or bluesign certified.  Our fabrics are OEKO-TEX certified for using low-impact dyes and our organic cottons are GOTS certified. Our mill's main dye house has converted from coal to natural gas power, set up water filtration systems, and invested in boiler systems to recapture the condensation from the heating and drying processes to be reused.
